Pass It On is a song about a box that moves from door to door — and a small community movement behind it. The box can be anything: a wooden box, a crate, a plastic bin or a basket. It can stand anywhere — at home, in a shop, at work or at school. Let people fill it and take from it. The lyrics are just an example to inspire you.

Build your own Pass-It-On Box
Five panels. A few screws. A little kindness. This is just one example — any sturdy box, crate or bin works.
- Get the parts. 18 mm plywood (ask the timber shop to cut it): base 400 × 300 mm (1 piece), front and back 400 × 232 mm (2 pieces), sides 264 × 232 mm (2 pieces).
- Gather tools. Drill with a 3 mm bit, screwdriver, sandpaper, clamps, wood glue and 24 exterior wood screws (3.5 × 40 mm). Wear eye protection and keep your hands clear of the drill.
- Build the walls. Glue and clamp the four walls square. Pre-drill and countersink every screw hole. Use 3 screws at each corner, through the front and back into the side edges.
- Attach the base. Glue the bottom edges and add the base. Drive 3 screws along each edge (12 in total), centred on the 18 mm panel edges.
- Smooth and protect. Sand the edges and corners smooth, apply a water-based exterior wood finish, and let the glue and finish fully cure as directed.
- Fill it. Pass it on. Add sealed, shelf-stable food, fruit, soap or a book. Keep food wrapped and soap in a separate bag. Keep the box sheltered and dry, and carry it from underneath.
Take what you need. Add something if you can. Give it to somebody new.
